Logistics & supply branch is one of the key branch of Gujarat Medical Services Corporation Limited.

Logistics is generally the detailed organization and implementation of a complex operation. In a general business sense, logistics is the management of the flow of things between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet requirements of customers or Institute.

Logistics management is the part of supply chain management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward, and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customer's requirements. The complexity of logistics can be modelled, analyzed, visualized, and optimized by dedicated simulation software. The minimization of the use of resources is a common motivation in all logistics fields.

Objective

  • To ensure that Right Goods Reaches to right person at Right Time in Right Quantity & at Right cost. Logistic branch looks supply of medicine from supplier to regional depots & from depots to Direct Demanding officers facilities. Thus this is very crucial branch for GMSCL.
  • Reporting hierarchy in supply chain management is as follows - Managing Director > General Manager (LPQC) > DGM (Logistic & Supply) > Manager(LSS).

Achievements

  • There are total 7 fully functional regional drug ware houses namely Naroda, Patan, Amreli, Jamnagar,Vadodara, Rajkot& Surat.
  • GMSCL has recently started 2 new drug ware houses namely, Himatnagar & Bhuj.
  • Dahod Depot possession has already taken and it will started soon.

New initiatives

  • New supply policy developed for Primary, Secondary & Tertiary care units.
  • Operationalization of Pass Book system at Patan Regional Drug ware house from 1st April 2016.
  • Monthly review meeting of all direct demanding officers by video conference is one of the new initiatives which brings maximum outcome against minimum input.
  • Monthly All RWH ADM’s Monthly review Meeting has Started at Head Office.
  • Monthly supportive supervision scheduled for DGM & Manager for each regional drug warehouse.
  • Timely NOCs are issued for short supply items to various facilities.
  • To avoid zero tolerance for shortage of drug, route plan prepared accordingly level of care medicines are supplied.
  • Weekly monitoring of "A” group drugs for all Drug ware houses & major institutes so that the supply & demand of medicines managed smoothly without delay.
  • Daily basis Receive and Supply Analysis for all Depots By Logistic Branch.

Way forward

  • Strengthening of infrastructure & Human resource at Regional drug ware houses with reference to WHO Guidelines.
  • New drug ware house will be started at Bharuch & Valsad moreover 3 regional ware house has been sanctioned namely at Bhavnagar, Junagadh & Palanpur.
  • Implementation of Online database system up to grass root level.
  • Forecast the demand of institutes & drug ware houses to avoid short or excess supply of medical & surgical goods.
  • Planning to monitor each institute for rational utilization of medicines.

Goals

  • Total 11 Depots fully Functionalized up to the end of March’2017.
  • Planning to do Annual Supply more than 320 Crore.
  • Forecast the demand of institutes & drug ware houses to avoid short or excess supply of medical & surgical goods.
  • To start maintain 2 Months Buffer Stock at Depot level for all Items.
  • To established auto generated Request for put up Purchase Order in advance.
  • To provide Pro-Active NOC in advance on Website.
  • All staff fully trained with the system of GMSCL.
  • Completed all basic requirements of all depots.
  • To Monitor all RWH from Head Office Level by CCTV Cameras.
